Because the Lord in my Shepherd,

I have everything I need!

He lets me rest in the meadows

grass and lead me besides the

quite streams.  He restores my

failing health.  He helps me do

what honors him most.

Even when walking through the dark

valley of death I will not be afraid,

for you are close beside me, guarding,

guiding all the way.

You provide delicious food for me in

the presence of my enemies.  You have

welcomed me as your guest; blessings

overflow!

Your goodness and unfailing kindness

shall be with me all of my life, and

afterwards I will live with you

forever in your home.

Peace Like A River

I like the word serenity.  It always seems to me to be a shining word, like sunlight glimmering on quiet water.

When I was small, I thought that serene people carried deep well of peace in them; I imagine I could see the cool, still water that flowed out of them, refreshing and quieting the dusty, noisy crowds around them.

I'm not the only one who connects serenity with water The Bible also speaks of peace being like quiet river.

And David writes of the Shepherd who leads us beside the still, calm waters, and quieting our hearts.

Obviously, there's a connection between serenity and water.  After all, they both refresh us; they both give us life.  And they both help to wash us clean of the ordinary grime and dust that darkens our lives.

For in the quiet moments when we draw away from the noise and bustle of human life, we come into God's presence.  Alone with Him, we open our hearts--and we are restored, brought back to life washed clean.

His Spirit speaks peace to our hearts. And as we go back to the noise and the hurry, we

can choose to carry His Spirit with us, a deep, quite well of serenity to our hearts...
